GP Quiz Numero Cuatro

Published: 7 August 2006 | 1 comment

Its been a long time since my last …wait… that sounds awfully familiar doesn’t it? Yeah it does. Its usually the first few words that are typed or comes out of someone’s mouth when they haven’t done something in a while. In my case, you know that at times my posts are few and far between and it happens for the usual reasons, work and school. While there’s no escaping those, I did get some time to work up another GP Quiz.

This time, however, I’m going to change it up a bit. Instead of asking 5 questions and giving you a selection of answers, I’m going to give 5 verses and you have to find them in the bible and post where they are taken from. Now I know we might not all have the same translation of the Bible, so to make things a little more interesting once you have identified where the verse is taken, I’d also like you to post the same verse from your favourite translation. It’s always interesting to hear the verse in a slightly different way and to some it can help them to better understand what the verse is trying to say. If it so happens your favourite translation is the same as the one I use (You can check some of my other posts to find out) then still find the verse in another and post it anyway. So without further delay here are the verses:

  1. In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.
  2. For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him…
  3. “Everything is permissible”—but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible”—but not everything is constructive.
  4. Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
  5. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

3. 1 Corinthians 10:23
4. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
5. 1 Peter 5:8-9

1. In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

2. For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars

3. All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

4. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

5. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world
