Today is May 1st, and therefore that means the Spring CSS Reboot . 1000+ people will simultaneously launch their standards-based redesigns (and that includes GP) and I must say I’m rather excited to see all the designs. In about February I made the decision to participate in the reboot thanks to a little encouraging by Robert Evans (who will also be rebooting). While I had the ideas for the design in my head about a month ago, I only started putting it together about two weeks ago.

So here it is, GP v2.0. You will notice it’s a lot more colourful than my last design with a few things added here and there (recommended and aroun the web with God sections). Please note that there are still things that aren’t quite the way I would like them and still things that I would love to add to it at some point in the future. Also note that the design seems to break in IE when viewing individual articles. I will try to get this fixed as time allows. If you notice anything else out of line, just leave a comment or contact me.

To be honest, it feels good to be rebooting, but at the same time, looking at all the other great designs done for this reboot, it keeps me humble. I remind myself that it’s not about me and getting any praises, it’s all about doing it to honour the Lord and to use this talent I’ve been given.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, - Colossians 3:23

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you and may He bless you greatly. Have a wonderful day!

Update: Most problems seem to be fixed with the exception of IE 6’s inability to render png images with transparency properly. I’m still working on that though. If you notice any others don’t hesitate to let me know.

Yannick! Nice and fresh change! Good job! I’m with you on the whole staying humble thing. I know I have just a little to offer, but I know that whatever it is it serves to give all the glory and point to the God Almighty. Blessings to you too!

I really think is quite pretty. Very peaceful!

Yannick, I love it! You did an awesome job! I like the rollovers.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get time this weekend to finish my redesign. Hopefully I’ll find time this week.

I really like your new look!!

Artjom: Thank you. Yup, man when you look at all those other great designs you can’t help but go Wow, but it feels more rewarding to know that you did your best and you did it for God.

C: Thanks. Yeah I was going for the peaceful look.

Robert: Thank you also, I know you will do a good job with yours. If I can be of any help just let me know.

Blessings on you all!

I like the reboot. Nice change. Personally, I like it much better than your previous design.

The only thing I noticed that you might want to change is the Navigation rollovers. The page menu items jitter a little in Firefox and for some reason in IE 6 there is only one column, rather than two like in Firefox.

Overall, great design and nice work. Can’t believe you pulled this off in a mere two weeks.

God bless,

Adding to what Mithrill said, the “page white” png’s are not transparent in IE.

As for the FF jitter, the margin-bottom: -1px; in the ul#navigation li a:hover {} would work. I don’t know whether it would mess up the list items of the ul#navigation in IE, you’ll just have to test it.

As to the one column thing, it might be that both #main and #side are left floating. I think removing float from #main, adding “right” float on #side and placing #side above #main in your code would work. I might be wrong though. At least, it works for me. But again, you will have to test that.

God bless you, brother!

Ah yes thanks guys, a few of those problems I knew about and a few I didn’t. Thanks a bunch. I will work on getting them fixed over the weekend hopefully.

Mithrill: Well I had the some of the ideas in my head for the design from back when I first decided to join the reboot and at times I started to do the mockup in Macromedia Fireworks but yeah the actual coding was done in the last two weeks before the reboot (including the day/night before). :)

I still have a lot of fixing and tweaking to do though as you have already noticed.

I think it turned out great. I really like the sky / grass combo. The menu jumps a bit on link hovers, but all in all I think it’s a very nice reboot / redesign.

Thanks Nathan.

Andy, Rob, Will: Thanks guys. Much appreciated.

I love it! Very cool design. I like your logo too.

gravatar Yannick (Author) — 10 May 2006

Thanks Ryan! I’m happy you like the logo. I didn’t create it, but I’m grateful to the person who did and it definitely inspired the redesign.

It looks great Yannick! I especially like the fact that God’s porch is styled with Corinthian Columns! That’s great! Keep up the good work. :)

Hey Shawn,

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comments on the site and logo. I noticed you also are sporting a new logo on your site. Good stuff!
