Blessed is the man

Reading the Bible this morning, I came across the words “Blessed is the man…” in Jeremiah 17:7 NIV and those words immediately stood out to me. To be honest I’m not quite sure why they did, but just out of curiousity I decided to search for verses that had those words in it. Based on the search results, those words together mainly occur in Psalms and Proverbs but are present in a few verses elsewhere in the Bible. The following are a few of those verses:

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers… – Psalm 1:1 NIV

Blessed is the man whom God corrects; so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. – Job 5:17 NIV

Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding,… – Proverbs 3:13 NIV

But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. – Jeremiah 17:7 NIV

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. – James 1:12 NIV

Great set of verses. One that stood out to me (in the link) is “Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.“—Psalm 112:1.

Maybe it’s because I haven’t looked into it that much, but it’s really hard to grasp the fear that we’re supposed to have of our Lord. And it’s also really hard to find delight in his commands, let alone actually follow them. It’s like really enjoying cleaning up your room as a kid when your parents tell you to. You do it because you have to, but you don’t find joy in it.

Thanks for sharing these Yannick.
